A is for Apple … Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary volunteers Jenny Robinson, Noela Burns, Pamela Lincoln and Linda Devitt

November 1, 2018

The volunteers at the Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary Canteen believe that healthy eating is as easy as A-B-C.

They have begun working their way through the alphabet in a bid to promote healthy eating among hospital staff and visitors.

This week it is Apple Week and there’s baskets of the fruit on hand.

Next week it will be Bananas and there’ll be banana fritters on the menu.

(We’re not sure what they’ll do with the “difficult” letters but they do promise something “X-tra special” later on …)

Auxiliary publicity officer Pamela Lincoln said it was part of a responsible approach by the Auxiliary to promote healthy eating.

The canteen has already taken other healthy steps, especially in the display of sugary drinks.

“We have made water the desired drink with a large, refreshing display now set at eye level,” she said.

“It’s the first drink you see when you open the fridge.”

Pamela said freshly made salads and wraps were also proving popular.

Profits from sales at the canteen are being put towards a new ultrasound machine for Kingaroy Hospital’s Emergency Department.
