Woolworths stores – including the supermarket in Kingaroy Shoppingworld – will soon be offering “shopping bags for life” for customers to buy for less than a dollar.

The new “Bag for Good” bags will replace the green, reusable shopping bags that have been available for purchase at Woolies’ stores for many years.

“Our ‘Bag for Good’ costs 99 cents, and when it gets damaged, we will replace it for free, no matter when you bought it from us,” General Manager of Operations for Woolworths in Queensland, Matthew Franich, said this week.

“We’ll then recycle your old bag via the REDCycle program.

“Any money made from the sale of the Woolworths Bag for Good will fund the Junior Landcare grants program, encouraging young Australians to play an active role in ensuring the sustainable future of their environment.”

Single-use plastic shopping bags will be removed from Woolworths’ stores on June 20; they will be banned in Queensland from July 1.
