Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary has received a $250 “Local Hero” grant from Member for Nanango Deb Frecklington, one of four groups to be supported in the latest round of the local scheme.

“This Local Hero Grant will help the Auxiliary purchase a cash register, which will make it much easier for the canteen volunteers to serve customers and keep a better record of products sold,” Mrs Frecklington said.

“I was blown away by the quality and number of applications which were submitted by groups from around the Nanango Electorate in Round 5 of my Local Hero Grants program.

“These are small but meaningful $250 grants which provide an opportunity to show my support, thanks and appreciation for all our hardworking volunteer groups who make such a difference for our community.

“They also encourage people who are attending sporting or other events and need assistance to make it possible.”

The four successful groups in Round 5 are:

  • The Kingaroy Hospital Auxiliary for a new cash register at the Kingaroy Hospital Canteen
  • Helping Hands (St John’s Anglican Church, Blackbutt) for emergency relief food vouchers
  • The Kilcoy Greenleaves Garden Club to help with their 50th birthday celebrations
  • River Pointon, from the Toogoolawah Clay Target Club, to help him participate in the Junior Team attending the South East Zone Clay Target Shooting competition in Townsville.

Round 6 of Mrs Frecklington’s Local Hero Grants is now open.

Applications will close on August 31.
