The South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show long weekend festival will have a new attraction this year – a photography competition offering prize money for the winners.
While organisers are still sorting out the final entry form details and the exact amount of the prizes, they’re keen to let photographers know about it so they can start selecting their subjects as early as possible.
The photography competition is designed to celebrate the 69 buildings and sites listed in the South Burnett Local Heritage Register.
This Register was officially adopted by the South Burnett Regional Council last September, and catalogues buildings and structures of historic significance throughout the region.
To enter the competition, photographers simply need to visit any site in the Register that allows photography during the October long weekend (September 29-October 2), then snap the best photo of it they can.
They’re also welcome to photograph other structures that may not be on the Register but meet the criteria of being South Burnett buildings or other architecture of significance.
Finished entries need to be submitted by 4:30pm the following Monday, October 9 for judging.
Entries will be displayed online and the winners will be announced the following Tuesday, October 17.
Two separate competitions will be run: one focussing on architecture, and another for secondary students in Years 7-12.
Entries in the Focus On Architecture competition will be judged on three criteria:
- Creativity
- Quality of photography
- Architectural significance of the subject
Entries can be submitted in four categories:
- A – Exterior
- B – Interior
- C – Detail
- D – People
Entries in the Secondary Student Photography Competition will be judged on the same criteria as Focus On Architecture, but no categories apply and the submission deadline for entries is 5:00pm on Friday, October 14.
