Professor Jeff Dunn AO, well-known in the South Burnett for his role as CEO of Cancer Council Queensland, will take on a new challenge next year at the University of Southern Queensland.

Prof Dunn’s new role aims to provide strategic leadership to cancer research at the university.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Jan Thomas congratulated Prof Dunn on his appointment.

The position, as Chair of Transformative Social Science, will be established within USQ’s Institute for Resilient Regions (IRR) where Prof Dunn will lead and develop programs addressing health and well-being issues in regional Australia.

Prof Dunn has worked with Cancer Council Queensland (CCQ) for 28 years, and has been its CEO since 2002.

He is already an Adjunct Professor with USQ’s IRR, and mentors health and well-being researchers.

He will take up his new role by March 2017, and will continue as CCQ CEO until then.

CCQ chairman Graham Gibson thanked Prof Dunn for his contribution.

“Jeff has devoted his academic career to research in this field and in this role will continue to advocate for CCQ’s mission, providing instrumental guidance in the development of novel strategies that underpin cancer control and improve community awareness of the disease,” Mr Gibson said.
