South Burnett And Cherbourg On ShowA sumptuous three-course dinner of South Burnett foods and wines will officially launch this year’s South Burnett and Cherbourg On Show October long weekend festival.

The “Sample The South Burnett and Cherbourg Dinner” will be held in the historic 112-year-old Wondai Hotel and Cellar on Friday, October 2.

The Wondai Hotel and Cellar was the venue for last year’s sold out Festival dinner, and was chosen again this year as “the perfect location” for a gala occasion that celebrates both the South Burnett’s history and its more recent accomplishments in food and wine.

The feast will be prepared by experienced chefs from Cherbourg’s Yurri Muntha Cafe using local ingredients, then served by the cafe’s staff.

Each course will also be accompanied by a matching wine from Crane Wines, Clovely Estate and Moffatdale Ridge vineyards.

In 2014 Clovely Estate at Moffatdale was awarded a 5-star grading in the Australian Wine Guide by noted wine authority James Halliday – one of only nine wineries in Queensland to achieve this prestigious ranking.

And in recent years both Crane Wines and Moffatdale Ridge have also won numerous awards for their products.

Each of the wines served during the dinner will be introduced by experts who’ll share their knowledge about how it was produced, along with the finer points of what diners should look for when they drink each one.

Afterwards, guests can dance the night away with live entertainment organised by Andrew Beckett and get acquainted with “Chloe”, the Wondai Hotel’s reproduction of the National Trust-listed painting that has been hanging in Melbourne’s famous Young & Jackson Hotel since 1909.

Tickets for the full dinner with wines went on sale this week at $75 per head.

But diners who – for whatever reason – don’t want to have wines with their dinner won’t be disadvantaged.

“Wine-free” dinner tickets are also available for $60, with guests welcome to buy whatever they prefer at the Wondai Hotel and Cellar’s bar on the night.

The dinner will feature an entree of either Bendele Farm Organic Confit Duck and Onion and Bean Soup with Persil lade, or Kingaroy Cheese Quark and Spinach Ravioli with burnt butter sauce, and a matching wine from Crane Wines.

For mains, diners can choose either a Slow Roasted Cumin and Honey Barkers Creek Pork Belly with parsnips and baby carrots; a Kingaroy Kitchen Dukkah Crusted Lamb Back Strap served with seasonal vegetables and roasted shallots; or a vegetarian Roasted Vegetable Stack with sweet potato crisps and Shirley’s apple and tomato chutney, accompanied by a matching wine from Clovely Estate.

And for dessert, they’ll also have three options: White Chocolate Parfait with Peanut Praline and Persian fairy floss using Peanut Van peanuts; Leabrook Farm Honey and Rhubarb sponge pudding with a Vanilla Bean Anglaise; or a local cheese and fruit platter, all accompanied by a matching Moffatdale Ridge wine.

Tickets to the dinner are strictly limited and will only be available until the event is sold out.

They can be obtained in person from the Wondai Regional Art Gallery on the roundabout at Wondai; by phoning the Gallery on (07) 4168-5926 or by by email.
