University Cougars tested South Burnett Saints at Lyle Vidler Oval last Saturday

June 3, 2026

The annual Ben Brooks Memorial Day Australian Rules game will have extra poignancy this Saturday at Kingaroy’s Lyle Vidler Oval.

The South Burnett Saints will again be remembering their much-loved former teammate, Ben, who died of cancer in 2022.

However, this year Ben’s father Darryl – who attended past memorial days – will also be on the team’s mind.

Darryl was a founding member of the Saints and a former junior coach but died from a work-related cancer on May 1 this year.

The Saints men will be taking on the Warwick Redbacks in their Darling Downs competition match at 2:45pm.

At the end of the game, Ben Brooks Medals will be presented to a player from each team.
