Aspiring authors have been invited to attend this year’s Writers’ Retreat at the Bunya Mountains, part of the Western Downs Regional Council’s “Words Out West 2026” festival.
The retreat, on June 20, features two workshops led by experienced authors.
Merinda Dutton will take “Writing Between Worlds” which explores storytelling across cultures and perspectives.
Writer, music-maker and poet Matt Hetherington will guide participants through “Ginko: a haiku walk”, a creative outdoor session inspired by the tradition of writing in nature.
Western Downs Mayor Andrew Smith said the Words Out West Festival continued to bring people together and strengthen the region’s creative spirit.
“Having Merinda Dutton and Matt Hetherington lead this year’s Writers’ Retreat is a fantastic opportunity for our local storytellers to learn from diverse voices and explore new creative possibilities,” Mayor Smith said.
“Their experience will encourage participants to grow in confidence, connect with others, and enjoy a day that celebrates creativity across the Western Downs.”
Tickets are $60 for a single session or $120 for the full day and can be booked online
