“You could hear a pin drop” at RACQ CareFlight’s Gala Ball on Saturday night as Ironpot author Alice Greenup shared her tale of survival.

CareFlight Executive Fundraising Manager Leanne Angel said the 600-strong crowd sat quietly as Alice related how she had been airlifted from her property near Kingaroy 12 years ago after a farming accident.

She had been mustering cattle with her husband Rick when her horse suddenly reared up and bucked her off.

She suffered horrific injuries, including bleeding on the brain, a ruptured liver and broken ribs.

But Alice has not only recovered and gone back to farming, she has also become a published author.

Two copies of her 2013 memoir, “Educating Alice”, attracted enthusiastic bidding amongst guests at the Gala Ball, raising $5000 for CareFlight.

The ball, held at Rumours International in Toowoomba, raised an estimated $140,000 for the helicopter rescue service.
