More than 3700 visitors stayed at Boondooma Dam and Yallakool Recreation Parks over the Christmas holidays.

South Burnett Mayor Wayne Kratzmann said the dams had been “a hub of fun and activity” and a significant tourist attraction.

He said Boondooma Dam had offered children’s movie nights, discos and trivia nights and fireworks on New Year’s Eve.

“There was a 9:00pm display and a midnight display with reports of over 2000 visitors in the park on that evening,” he said.

“The market stalls, jumping castle, bucking bull and live band were also a great hit with the crowds.”

Yallakool Park, on Bjelke-Petersen Dam, also had a trivia night, numerous movie nights and children’s pool parties.

“The fishing at both parks has been especially good over the last month with some bass and yellowbelly being caught well over 30cm,” Mayor Kratzmann said.

“The reports in from the waterways are that people continue to try for redclaw even though they have been much quieter this year.”
