A 42-year-old Bundaberg man, pulled over by Kingaroy police on the Bunya Highway at Tingoora, will pay a hefty fine for maintaining a “highway” speed through the town.

Kingaroy Officer-in-Charge Senior-Sergeant Duane Frank said the man was caught driving at 104km/h in the 60 zone.

He was issued with a ticket for $1026 and will lose eight demerit points.

Snr Sgt Frank said he was pleased with the community’s behavior at the weekend’s Burrandowan races.

“There was no trouble and no arrests,” he said.

“There were only a couple of minor alcohol-related issues involving young males.”

He said there was a large amount of traffic heading out to the racetrack.

Disappointingly, a 20-year-old P-Plate driver was caught travelling at 138km/h in a 100 zone.

Snr Sgt Frank said the woman, who was carrying four passengers, was speeding on the single-lane bitumen road.

She was fined $500 and lost her licence.

Her excuse?

“She said she was running late for the start of the races,” Snr Sgt Frank said.

Snr Sgt Frank urged Kingaroy drivers to take care around the roadworks currently taking place at the intersection of Markwell and Kingaroy streets.

The work, which started this week, is related to the installation of traffic lights at the corner and is expected to be finished mid-year.

Reduced speed limits will be enforced in the area.
