Returning Officer Chatur Zala and Assistant Returning Officer Edwina Stewart at the Candidates’ Draw this morning

Arnold Murray today drew the No 1 spot on the ballot paper for the by-election to fill a vacancy at Cherbourg Aboriginal Shire Council.

The official draw for ballot positions was conducted by Returning Officer Zala Chatur at the Cherbourg Shire Council Office in Cherbourg this morning.

Three of the five nominated candidates attended the draw.

The order that will appear on Ballot papers will be:

1. Arnold Murray
2. Vinnie Conlon
3. Ashley Lyle Hill
4. Tom Langton
5. J. Emma Stewart

The election will be held on Saturday, April 12, although pre-poll voting will be available at the Cherbourg Shire Council office from March 31 to April 11.

Voting is compulsory.

Applications for postal votes close at 6:00pm on Wednesday, April 9.

The vacancy on the Council was caused by the death of Cr Bert Button last month.
