Kingaroy Police are urging local residents to be conscious of security in their homes following a number of reported thefts over the recent holiday season.
There are a number of simple measures people can adopt to protect their property:
- Make locking external doors and windows a habit, even when you are in your premises or out in the yard. Offenders often enter and steal property while a resident is inside the home
- Conduct a basic security survey. View your premises objectively and identify vulnerable areas and increase security where necessary
Increasing security can be as easy as installing additional sensor lights or locks, and by keeping ladders and tools in a secure place.
Keep valuables such as keys, wallets and mobile phones out of sight, to deter sneak thieves. Valuables left in open view can become easy targets.
