A gala four-course wine and food dinner under the stars will kick off next year’s Wine & Food In The Park Festival.

The dinner, prepared by chef Jimmy Stephen from Accents Catering, will be held at Kingaroy’s Memorial Park on Friday, March 7, the evening immediately before the festival.

The new event was confirmed at South Burnett Events Inc’s Annual General Meeting held in Kingaroy on Tuesday night.

South Burnett Events is the not-for-profit community organisation which has run the annual event since 2000.

At the meeting, Darren Schmidt was elected as the committee’s President, replacing outgoing President Nina Temperton.

Chrys McDuffie was elected as Vice President; Ray Wilton as Secretary/Treasurer; and Paula Greenwood as admin secretary.

In her President’s Report, Mrs Temperton said she shared the community’s disappointment that the 2013 festival had to be cancelled because of the flood-soaked conditions at Memorial Park.

It was the first time in the event’s history it had not been run.

She said the festival had taken a financial loss because of the cancellation but she understood people in the community ahd also been disappointed.

Mrs Temperton said she was stepping down from the executive due to the pressure of other work commitments, but would be happy to continue to serve on the festival committee.

The four-course wine dinner will cater for a maximum of 150 guests and will be held in the middle of the park (or in the Giant Wine Tent in the event of rain).

Prices and ticket outlets for the dinner are expected to be announced within a few weeks.
