The Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking Association will be expanding their popular Yellowbelly fishing competition in 2014.

Next year, the Association will be running an additional catch and release section in the popular two-day annual fishing competition for suitably equipped anglers.

In each session, the longest Australian Bass caught, measured and released will attract a cash prize.

A trophy will also be presented for the best overall Australian Bass caught and released during the event.

Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition spokesman Terry Allwood said that with dam levels estimated to be around 85 per cent in early February, the annual competition scheduled for February 8 and 9 should provide a great weekend of fishing and family activities.

“Fishing conditions at Lake Boondooma will be at their best, the water quality should be good and significant weed beds have now returned after the recent floods.” he said.

Entry costs for 2014 will remain at $20 for adults and $5 for juniors aged 16 years and under.

Registrations will be accepted for the fishing competition from 12:30pm on Friday, February 7 at the Stocking Association’s clubhouse on the lake’s foreshores.

The fishing and family fun weekend is a major fundraiser that supports the ongoing stocking of Lake Boondooma.

Competition entry fees do not include the cost of camping at the lake, but accommodation available at the Lake Boondooma Caravan and Recreation Park includes 5 self-contained cabins, a communal bunkhouse, powered sites, non-powered lakeside camping areas and modern amenities blocks.

Information about current camping fees can be obtained on the South Burnett Regional Council’s website

All anglers must have a current Stock Impoundment Permit, and these can be purchased from the Lake Boondooma kiosk or online at DAFF’s website.
