Installation of the roof begins over the ambulance bay shed

July 25, 2013

Kingaroy’s new $3.5 million ambulance station is rapidly taking shape in Kent Street and has just passed an important milestone.

Installation of the roof over the ambulance bay area began on Wednesday.

Site manager Stephen Haugh, from Hutchinson Builders, said he hoped to have the building finished by Christmas and ready for the service to move into by early 2014.

However, the project hasn’t been without its challenges.

After the demolition of the old building in April, 3000 cu metres of soil had to be dug out and removed to be replaced with decomposing granite to provide a solid foundation for the new building.

Two sewer lines also had to be relocated, a job that was completed by local Kingaroy business Fiedler Brothers Plumbing.

There are between 10 and 12 workers on site daily.

$2 million was allocated for the completion of the project in the State Government in the 2013-14 State Budget; on top of $1.5 million in the 2012-13 Budget.
