Dairy farmers in the Murgon, Wondai and Monto regions will be able to work on improved soil management and rehabilitation and weed control, following the announcement of project funding through the Federal Government’s Caring for Our Country program.

The funding will allow the Queensland Dairyfarmers’ Organisation’s “Dairying Better’n Better” team to work with local “Dairying Better’n Better” (DBnB) farmer groups on environmental and on-farm activities.

QDO CEO Adrian Peake said the regions had been hit very hard by ex-Cyclone Oswald flooding in January and this funding would be very welcome to help restore and repair some of that damage.

“The funding will allow farmers in the DBnB groups to continue striving for improved on-farm outcomes as well as improved environmental outcomes,” Mr Peake said.

“The activities will use existing industry networks and tools to deliver outcomes, including the industry’s DairySAT (self-assessment tool). It will use expert advice and knowledge to assist farmers through this process.

“QDO and the industry are grateful for the contribution from the Commonwealth Government to each region and look forward to delivering the outcomes of the projects.”

The DBnB program is a partnership between QDO and Subtropical Dairy.
