A Murgon man is believed to be assisting police with their inquiries after a police officer was injured at Redbank Plains on Monday night.

About 6.50pm, a male officer was approaching a stolen vehicle which had been intercepted by police when the driver allegedly drove at the officer and struck him with the vehicle.

The Detective Senior Constable was taken to Ipswich Hospital with an injury to his hip, cuts and abrasions.

A man turned himself in to Hendra police station late this morning and is currently being interviewed by police.

UPDATE 7:00pm: Early reports identified the man as being from Murgon; however the official police statement this evening states he is 25 and from Kallangur;  He has been charged with a total of sixteen offences, including four counts of dangerous operation of motor vehicle, three counts of fail to stop motor vehicle, two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle, and one count each of serious assault on police causing bodily harm, burglary and commit indictable offence, stealing, and wilful damage.
