A 55-year-old man was transported to Kingaroy Hospital after his car struck a power pole in Alford Street in the early hours of this morning, snapping the pole and blacking out part of Kingaroy.

The Mazda 3 struck a pole near the corner of Alford and Jarrah streets, near the entrance to the PCA Technical Centre, about 1:30am.

The pole was left dangling at a 45 degree angle, dragging live power lines towards the ground.

Police secured the area to stop anyone approaching the scene.

Ergon Energy was called and isolated the electricity about 2:45am but required extra crews to secure the pole.

Police blocked access to the intersection while this work was being carried out.

Power was restored to 103 affected customers at 9:51am.
