Funfest committee president Cr Barry Green with  Mardi Gras Ambassador Danielle Turmaine

October 8, 2012

Nanango’s annual town festival may have been known by a few names over time – Mardi Gras, Pioneer Festival or FunFest – but it’s been running continuously for 43 years.

And it’s on again next weekend!

The 2012 Heritage Mardi Gras will be held all day next Saturday in the Nanango CBD and at Pioneer Park.

A wine and cheese night was held at Ringsfield House on Friday to officially launch the festival and to announce the  Nanango Mardi Gras Ambassador for 2012 and the Mardi Gras Queen.

They are Danielle Turmaine and Sue Wallis.

“Danielle is a volunteer with the festival and is a very hard worker,” Funfest Committee president Cr Barry Green said.

“Sue is one of the major organisers.”

The committee decided to sash an “ambassador” instead of a princess, and Cr Green said he believed they would also do this in future as it encouraged people of all ages to take part.

Highlights of the Heritage Mardi Gras include

  • Poets Breakfast – 7:00am-9:00am in Pioneer Park
  • Skateboard stunts and clinic at skate bowl – 9:00am-11:00am
  • The King and Queen of the Mountain Footrace – register at 10:00am at the corner of Drayton and Fitzroy streets
  • Street Parade – from 12:30pm in Drayton and Fitzroy streets
