Firefighters inspect the ride-on mower believed to have sparked the grass fire

August 25, 2012

Firefighters from Kingaroy and Wooroolin quickly brought under control a large grass fire at Memerambi this afternoon which was close to homes and the former Memerambi State School.

Captain Mark Stallwood, from Kingaroy Brigade, said a property owner was attempting to put in a fire break using a ride-on mower when something went wrong.

Two fire trucks from Kingaroy and one from Wooroolin, and several rural brigades, attended the blaze.

Capt Stallwood said the incident should serve as a warning to people to take extra care during the current conditions.

No structures were damaged in the fire, although the ride-on mower was severely scorched.
