Police are warning of the resurgence of scam texts and emails that have recently re-emerged and are doing the rounds.

The text/email warns people they must deposit $5000 into a bank account or they will be killed.

This is a scam, commonly referred to as the “Hitman Scam”.

Police advise that people should delete the text or email immediately.

“It is important that members of the public are not alarmed and understand that such communications are distributed en masse and are not specifically targeting the individual,” a police spokesman said.

“Do not forward the message on and do not respond in any way to the message.

“If any member of the public has transferred any money it is vital they contact police and their bank immediately.”
