The Queensland Police’s Drug and Alcohol Unit has developed a drug diversion information brochure designed to provide information to the Indigenous community.
The new brochure will be launched in Toowoomba on Monday.
Drug diversion was implemented into legislation several years ago and it allows police, in certain circumstances, to divert people from the courts by referring them to a drug awareness program.
Statistical data showed Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people were not participating in the program at the same rate as other community members.
In an effort to address this issue, the Drug and Alcohol Unit worked with local communities to develop the new brochure.
