The former Deputy Director-General of the Department of Communities, Child Safety and Disability Services has been appointed CEO of the Darling Downs West Moreton Primary Health Network (PHN).

Ms Merrilyn Strohfeldt began her career as a speech pathologist but then branched out into organising early intervention services for youth mental health and indigenous well-being.

She also organised nurses in Family and Child Connect services and screening for Family and Domestic Violence at ante-natal visits.

In her role at the Department of Communities, she had responsibility for commissioning $700 million in outsourced service delivery, including youth mental health and indigenous well-being.

In a previous role as a National Manager at CRS Australia, she had responsibility for leading the Australian Government service delivery response to disasters including both Bali bombings, the London bombings and the Asian tsunami.

She also contributed to the Northern Territory Intervention.

The previous Darling Downs West Moreton PHN CEO, Simone Finch, finished with the public health body on November 3.

The Darling Downs West Moreton PHN is a federally funded organisation that aims to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of medical services for patients, and to improve co-ordination of care.

It is the responsible PHN for the South Burnett region.
