A juvenile has been charged with wilful damage and unlawful use of a motor vehicle after a truck caught on fire at Memerambi on Monday night.

Police will allege two children, aged under 14, attempted to drive away in a Fuso water  truck.

However, while they were trying to move it, they struck a fence post and became stuck.

A fire then began in the rear of the vehicle, causing substantial damage to the rear of the truck.

Two urban fire units were called to scene about 6:50pm.

The truck was burning in front of commercial sheds between Webbs Road and Recreation Drive.

A QFES spokesman said the fire was was contained by 7:05pm and fully extinguished by 7:30pm.

Firefighters ensured the blaze was contained to the vehicle and that it did not spread to nearby buildings or grassland.

The second child has been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
