Smoke rising on Thursday from the forestry fire between Wondai and Cherbourg … the fire was still burning on Friday

UPDATE 3:45pm:  Firefighters crews are on the scene of a large bushfire burning near Lewis Duff Road, Ballogie.

Firefighters are working to contain the fire, which broke out this afternoon. There is no threat to property at this time.

Earlier:

The fire in the forestry area near Wondai was still burning on Friday afternoon, but a QFES spokesperson said the area had now been made safe.

The blaze, which has been creating a lot of smoke in the local area, is burning within parameters.

National Parks and Wildlife staff are believed to be still on site but QFES firefighters have withdrawn to patrol the edges of the fireground.

Other fires in the South Burnett on Friday included a blaze on Lewis Duff Road at Ballogie.

Five fire crews were called to the scene at 12:45pm and at 2:45pm were working to extinguish the blaze.

There was no threat to property.

Fire crews were also called to Memerambi-Gordonbrook Road at Gordonbrook just after 2:00pm.  Two crews quickly had a fire there under control.

There were also reports of fires at Fairdale Road, Cushnie; and near the corner of Proston-Boondooma Road and Glencoe Road at Coverty.
