Kingaroy Shoppingworld will be taking on a bridal atmosphere this week, with about 20 stalls filling the shopping center as part of Wedding and Formal Week.

Wedding and Formal Week started on Wednesday, and will culminate with a fashion parade at 11:00am on Saturday, April 29.

Shoppers will be treated to giveaway bags and prizes, as well as the opportunity to meet photographers, florists, event coordinators, caterers, celebrants, winery and venue owners, dressmakers, hair and make-up artists and cake makers.

And while it is more common for people to take goodies home from the shopping center, the compere of Saturday’s fashion parade – toastmaster Jenny Morgan – will be encouraging people to give something away for a good cause, too.

Jenny gathers donations of new or second-hand bras and sends them to women in Papua New Guinea.

Thousands of bras have already been sent to women who would otherwise not have this everyday item that they consider a luxury.

But with more bras needed, Jenny will be taking donations on the day.

Noni B and Sasswear are also Shoppingworld donation points.

One other thing happening during Wedding and Formal Week is the chance for wedding, formal and event suppliers to become foundation members of the newly formed Cherish This Day group.

Cherish This Day is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to raise the profile of wedding and events in the South Burnett.

“With many brides choosing destination weddings, we want to showcase the fact that brides and event organisers have a variety of quality choices right on their doorstep,” Cherish This Day president Karen Bradwell said.

“We also want to promote our region further afield so that brides will start choosing the South Burnett for their wedding,” said

The group are currently putting together a website and digital magazine, and plan to hold other events later this year.
