Heavy rain over a short period of time caused flash flooding in many locations in the southern part of the South Burnett; there were even heavier falls across the northern areas

The South Burnett has been added to the list of regions which qualify for help in the wake of ex-Tropical Cyclone Debbie.

The South Burnett Regional Council can now access joint Federal-State Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) funding to fix essential public assets

A total of 28 local government areas in Queensland are now eligible to receive help, ranging from concessional interest rate loans and freight subsidies to infrastructure repairs.

In the South Burnett, assistance is limited to counter-disaster operations, clean-up activities and the restoration of damaged community infrastructure.

Justice Minister Michael Keenan announced the extra help for the South Burnett on Tuesday, a day after the adjoining North Burnett and Gympie regions were granted access to the same assistance.

Member for Maranoa David Littleproud said he had been lobbying on behalf of impacted communities in his electorate.

“Widespread flooding has caused damage to our roads and agricultural sector and the NDRAA is an important mechanism to help affected communities get back on their feet,” Mr Littleproud said.

“If you, or someone you know, needs assistance, please reach out and ask for help. You’re not on your own.

“I would also like to thank all of our emergency services who have tirelessly served our communities through this event.”
