The Kingaroy Bowls Club took a step away from the usual on Tuesday when it decided not to celebrate Melbourne Cup Day with a game of bowls.

Instead, it put on a $15 per head Melbourne Cup Lunch which attracted over 70 guests, many of whom weren’t bowlers at all.

They got to enjoy a great meal of ham, chicken and mixed salad, which was followed by a Fashion Parade with clothes supplied by Millers of Kingaroy.

After that, it was down to business taking tickets in the sweeps and placing bets before the big race.

The race itself was broadcast a 50-inch TV supplied for the occasion by Kingaroy’s Harvey Norman store.

At the end of the day, some patrons went home with winnings and some didn’t.

But the club is fairly certain they’ll be back next year to do it all again.
