Kingaroy Rotary Club president Wayne Bushell is well-known for his catering skills … this year he’s running a full-service cafe at Bookarama to feed hungry tummies

September 17, 2016

Patrons at this weekend’s Bookarama won’t need to go far if hunger pangs strike.

This year, the popular two day book fair will be offering something more than the usual all-day sausage sizzle.

Kingaroy Rotary Club will be running a cafe inside Kingaroy Town Hall, offering cafe-style breakfasts, lunches and snacks on both days.

Bookarama is run by the Taabinga Rotary Club but this year Kingaroy Rotary Club has also come on board to help.

The reason is that part of the proceeds of this year’s Bookarama will be going to help upgrade the walking track in the Kingaroy Town Common, a project that is dear to Kingaroy Rotary Club members’ hearts.

The Bookarama Cafe will be overseen by Kingaroy Rotary Club president Wayne (‘Bushie’) Bushell.

Bushie has catered at many Rotary events, including a memorable Movember night at the Kingaroy Town Common Hall a few years ago when his Sri Lankan beef curry won a round of applause.

His most recent outing was at “The Sky’s The Limit” police charity ball in May when he and chef Eddie McGregor prepared a deluxe three-course dinner for more than 350 guests.

“The Bookarama Cafe will have something for everyone,” Bushie said.

“You can come early and get breakfast, then browse until lunch time and have another meal before you get back into it in the afternoon.

“Or you can just take a break for some coffee and cake if you feel like it.”

Bookarama will be held at Kingaroy Town Hall in Glendon Street from 9:00am to 4:00pm on Saturday, September 17, and from 9:00am to noon on Sunday, September 18. Admission is free.
