August 10, 2016

South Burnett entrants have shone again at the Ekka … in everything from whipcracking to Prime Beef, and cooking to parading.

Midge Thompson, from Nanango, took out the Woolworths Trade Weight Steer competition, while Jason Livingstone, from Maidenwell, won the Reserve title in the Coles Carcass competition.

Local studs also took out a string of Champion and Reserve Champion ribbons in the Stud Beef classes.

In the Queensland Chamber of Agricultural Societies’ competitions, Justin Matthews, from Nanango, was sashed as Queensland Rural Ambassador.

Justin – named Rural Ambassador at the 2016 Nanango Show – competed against nine other Sub-Chamber winners from all over Queensland to take the title which was announced on Saturday night.

He has been involved with local shows for many years, showing led steers and stockhorses, competing in Young Judges competitions and volunteering as a steward.

Justin has completed a Bachelor of Applied Science and hopes to work in animal reproduction in the dairy or pork industries.

He will now compete against other State winners for the National title at the 2017 Geelong Show.

Stephanie Laycock won the Prime Beef Young Judge competition.

Stephanie, from Eskdale, competed in this year’s South Burnett Sub-Chamber finals at the Blackbutt Show where she also won first prize in the Lightweight Led Steer competition.
