Tansey Polocrosse Club’s Hafey family will be heading off to NSW next week to take part in the 25th Australian Polocrosse National Championships.

The championships are being held at Albury from April 18-24.

Dad Justin, daughters Beth, Emma and Laura, and son Daniel will all be representing Queensland at the event.

The Hafeys have 60 years of polocrosse experience between them.

Justin will be competing in the Open Men’s division, Beth and Emma in the Open Women’s, Daniel in the Under 16 Boys and Laura will captain the Under 16 Girls.

Members of Tansey club’s O’Neill and Gehrke families have also been selected: John O’Neill in the Masters Mixed, Tom O’Neill in the Open Men’s, Shane Gehrke in the Open Mixed and Jason Gehrke in the U21 Men’s.

Haly Creek’s Bredhauer family have also been selected as Reserves for the competition.

Queensland Polocrosse Association State Administrator Gillian Meppem-Mott said the State’s Nationals campaign was very much a family affair.

“Polocrosse is a family sport, and our clubs are a reflection of that,” Ms Meppem-Mott said.

“We have quite a few whole families competing, including the Hafey family.”

Up to 400 competitors, 800 horses and 3000 spectators are expected to converge on Albury from all over Australia for the week-long championships.
