Wondai’s water is safe to drink, despite the facts it looks dirty and may have an earthy taste.

The South Burnett Regional Council advised today the discolouration is due to soil run-off following recent storms.

Wondai’s water supply is sourced from Barambah Creek and treated at the Wondai Water Treatment Plant.

The SBRCs Manager of Water and Waste Water, Nerida Airs, said recent storms have caused debris and soil to flow into the creek, making the water extremely dirty.

“Because of the run-off, the turbidity of the water in Barambah Creek is high, which is causing some discolouration to get through the treatment system,” Ms Airs said.

“Water to Wondai will be discoloured for some time until the sediment in Barambah Creek drops.

“The water is still safe to drink, although some residents may notice an earthy taste and be put off by the discolouration.”

Residents with any concerns should contact Council’s Customer Service Centre on (07) 4189-9100.
