Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott is encouraging South Burnett community organisations to apply for a grant from the Federal Government’s $20 million Volunteer Grants program.
The program provides grants of between $1000 and $5000 to non-profit community groups to purchase equipment or offset costs to help make the work of their volunteers easier and safer.
“Community organisation can use these grants to help with costs incurred by volunteers – like the cost of fuel to take seniors to see a doctor, first aid training, background security checks or transport for volunteers with a disability who cannot drive,” Mr Scott said.
“Organisations can also purchase much-needed equipment, such as computers or printers so they can keep pace with technology.”
Mr Scott said the Government recognised that volunteers are the backbone of Australian communities.
“This year’s Volunteer Grants will give priority to organisations working with individuals or communities experiencing disadvantage, including communities affected by natural disasters. So I encourage organisations in these areas to apply.”
Applications for Volunteer Grants close on December 9 this year.
