The Saints played like bulldogs, snapping at the heels of Warwick all day

AFL fans could be excused for double-checking their calendars when they attended the Saints / Warwick game at Lyle Vidler Oval in Kingaroy on Saturday.

The South Burnett club’s “Heritage Day” had a genuine heritage feel with players turning out in the old Kingaroy Bulldogs strip against the Warwick Redbacks.

Fans who turned out to enjoy the nostalgia – and the live music afterwards – would not have been disappointed by the Saints’ effort on the field, either.

Warwick was more favoured but the match hung in the balance for much of the second half.

Saints led for a spell in the third quarter and were within a goal of taking the lead just minutes before the full-time siren when a late kick by Warwick sealed the result.

The final score was Warwick 11.11 (77) to South Burnett 9.12 (66).

Goal kickers for the Saints were Brad Edwards 3, Paul Pressnell 2, Adam Bowater, Jordan Pressnell, Kyall Shepherd and Jayden Ewing.

Best players were Alexander Totton, Adam Branch, Adam Bowater, Nathan Trace, Brad Edwards and Dylan Bowater.
