The southern end of Errol Munt Oval in Yarraman has been identified as a proposed “dog off-leash area” by Toowoomba Regional Council, subject to further community consultation.

At its May Committee meeting, Toowoomba Council endorsed a list of potential dog off-leash areas, taking into account community feedback from the 2012 Dog Off-leash Survey.

Environmental Health and Parks and Recreation portfolio leader Cr Sue Englart welcomed the list, saying it was a good starting point for determining what areas should be designated off-leash areas for dogs.

“Last year’s survey indicated that residents’ main priorities were for clear signage and adequate waste bins and watering points in these off-leash areas,” she said.

“Access for dog owners and having a buffer from busy roads and residential areas were also high priorities.”

Cr Englart said the survey revealed that dog owners were keen to avoid conflict with existing park users and wanted adequate distance from children’s playground equipment.

“Further community consultation will focus on immediate neighbours and relevant park users through a letterbox drop, public signage, print advertising and Council’s website.”
