NSW driver Lachlan Onley edged out Roma’s Wayne Randall by just centimetres to win an action-packed Round 3 of the National Super Sedan Series at Kingaroy on Saturday night.

Randall’s team had pulled an all-night effort to repair their car after it suffered a broken torque link during Round 2 of the series, which was raced the night before at Gympie.

The effort appeared to be paying off as Randall led throughout much of the 35-lap feature.

However, a late-race restart caused by Darren Kane getting stranded on the fence in Lap 33 bunched up the field.

When racing resumed, Randall pulled away again but received a shunt from Victorian Mick Nicola on the second last turn, slowing both cars and allowing Onley to sneak through on the inside.

The trio were spread three-abreast – still banging panels – as they crossed the finishing line. Both Nicola and Randall ended up on the wall after the chequered flag.

This wasn’t the only excitement on the evening.

South Australian driver Bill Miller escaped unscathed from a spectacular oil fire in Heat 4 of the National Super Sedans.

Miller kept a cool head, carefully guiding his car into the infield where emergency crews quickly extinguished the flames.  Miller emerged from the car to applause from the crowd.

If the racing – which also featured street sedans, junior sedans and lightning sprints – wasn’t enough for the fans, off-track there was also plenty happening.

The National Super Sedan drivers took part in an autograph session near the canteen, signing photos, caps and other memorabilia.

Santa also dropped by to hand out lollies (and we now know what Santa uses when reindeer are not available … a Mighty Boy!)

The evening was topped off by a spectacular fireworks display.

Results

Lachlan Onley won the feature race in the National Super Sedans by just centimetres

Ipswich driver Darren Kane was one of the favourites for the night, coming straight from his victory at Gympie

Parkes driver Tony Barklimore swapped the lead with Wayne Randall in the early stages of the NSSS feature

Lightning Sprints also featured on the evening ... Dion Prowse, from Narangba, was one of 16 drivers competing

Heat 1 of the Street Sedans got the night's racing off to a very muddy start; graders were called back onto the track which delayed racing but produced a fast track for later events

There was a lot of action in the Street Sedans and Junior Sedans; all heats were reduced to six laps after the late start to racing
