New Anti-Smoking Laws Begin Today
New anti-smoking laws which ban smoking within 10 metres of any facility in a national park come into force today. Smokers will have to keep a minimum 10 metres away from picnic tables, toilet blocks, barbecues, visitor information centres, shelters, jetties, boat ramps and camp sites in National Parks, and can face fines if they are asked to move away to this distance and refuse. The new laws add to those introduced in September 2016 which banned smoking within 5 metres of public transport waiting points such as bus stops, taxi ranks, and ferry terminals; within 5 metres of early childhood care services, kindergartens and after school care centres; and within 10 metres of skate parks and playing and viewing areas during under-18 sporting events.

The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). Riders will be able to come and try their hand at no cost under the supervision of an experienced team of officials and volunteers. Wizard Of Oz Information Session - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be holding an information session about their up-coming production of The Wizard Of Oz at their shed at the rear of the South Burnett Enterprise Centre complex at 6 Cornish Street, Kingaroy from 5:30pm to 6:00pm this evening. The SBMC normally produce one major musical comedy production every year and perform it over several days at Kingaroy Town Hall, but this year they'll be doing two (the other will be the classic "Jesus Christ Superstar", which will be in the earlier part of the year). The SBMC would like to hear from potential front-stage performers, as well as people who'd like to provide backstage help (eg: sound, lighting, costumes, make-up). The South Burnett Musical Comedy Society will be holding an information session about their up-coming production of The Wizard Of Oz at their shed at the rear of the South Burnett Enterprise Centre complex at 6 Cornish Street, Kingaroy from 7:30pm to 8:00pm this evening. The SBMC normally produce one major musical comedy production every year and perform it over several days at Kingaroy Town Hall, but this year they'll be doing two (the other will be the classic "Jesus Christ Superstar", which will be in the earlier part of the year). South Burnett Pantry - Kingaroy
The South Burnett Pantry will be open from 8:30am to 12:30pm today at 22 Stolzenberg Road in Kingaroy. The Pantry is a not-for-profit registered charity run by a Board of Management and staffed by volunteers, and it helps low income families, couples and singles stretch their shopping dollar further. The Pantry offers $40 pantry hampers that contain most of the food and personal cleaning items that most people need to get through part of the week (though you'll need to shop elsewhere for extras or special items). 9th Annual Reef & Beef Extravaganza - Ironpot
The 9th annual Reef & Beef Extravaganza will be held at Ironpot Hall in Ironpot from 5:30pm onwards this evening. This all-you-can-eat event will offer guests as many prawns, oysters, Moreton Bay bugs, scallops, whole cooked Red Emperor and pan-fried reef fish fillets, rib steaks and BBQ rib fillet steaks as they can pack in, along with salads, vegies and dessert. Brisbane Valley Rail Trails will be hosting a Yarraman To Linville Rail Trail Summertime Run (a cyling event) from 7:00am to around 2:00pm today. Boondooma Yellowbelly Fishing Competition
The 27th annual Boondooma Dam Yellowbelly Fishing Competition will be held at Boondooma Dam near Proston all this weekend, commencing at 5:00am this morning and concluding at around lunchtime tomorrow. The event - organised by the Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking Association in conjunction with a bevy of sponsors - will have adult and junior sections and numerous cash prizes for each weigh-in period. A licensed bar, BBQ and food and drink stalls will be operating for the duration and accommodation for competitors is available at the adjoining Lake Boondooma Tourist Park. Competition entry fees are $20 for adults and $5 for children and all competitors will need to have a Stocked Impoundment Permit to take part. Last year hundreds of keen anglers wet their lines for a share of the $4,500 prize-monies and large numbers of an campers packed the dam's camping grounds. Costume Jewellery Workshop - Kingaroy
Jumping Ant Arts will be holding a weekend-long Dichroic Glass Workshop at the 1913 Council Chambers behind the Visitor Information Centre in Haly Street, Kingaroy from 8:30am to 4:00pm today (and also tomorrow). The workshop - led by expert Shirley Wilkins - will teach participants how to make beautiful, sparkling costume jewellery from glass. Endeavour Foundation One Day Rally - Jondaryan
If you're a rally driver who'd like to support a great cause, the Endeavour Foundation will be holding a One Day Rally at the Jondaryan Woolshed at 264 Jondaryan-Evanslea Road, Jondaryan from 8:30am to 5:00pm today. Registrations will take place at 10:00am and cars will leave every two minutes from 10:30am, stopping for lunch in Kingaroy before returning to Jondaryan. Entry in the rally is $50 per car (if registered for the 2017 Great Endeavour Rally) or $100 per car (if not). Participants will need a mate to be the navigator and a suitable 2WD, 4WD or modified rally car equipped with a UHF radio and an orange flashing light (this gear can be hired if you don't have it). 68th Annual Cooyar Show
The 68th Annual Cooyar Show will be held at the Cooyar Showgrounds at Rangemore Road in Cooyar from 8:00am this morning through until very late tonight. South Burnett Soccer Sevens - Kingaroy
The 35th annual South Burnett Soccer Sevens will be held at the Kingaroy Soccer Grounds in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy all this weekend. This giant pre-season carnival - run by the South Burnett Senior Soccer Association - attracts teams from all over south-east Queensland and is one of the region's major annual sporting events. This year organisers expect there'll be upwards of 45 mens and womens teams competing for more than $2,000 in prize monies and locals are also very welcome to form a team and join in! Today's games will get underway at around 10:00am and will run to about 5:00pm. Admission to the Soccer Sevens is 100% free for spectators and there'll be a licensed bar, BBQ, coffee van and canteen operating at the grounds too. Nanango Stags Open Day
The Nanango Stags will be holding an Open Day at Fred Kassulke Oval on the D'Aguilar Highway south of Nanango's CBD at 2:00pm to 4:00pm this afternoon. Murgon Home Produce Share
The monthly Murgon Home Produce Share will be held at Bunya Nurseries at the corner of the Bunya Highway at Retschlag Street in Murgon from 9:00am to about 10:30am this morning. The share is for people who have excess home produce they would like to swap or gift to others (non-food items can also be swapped). Nanango Men's Carnival
The Nanango Golf Club on the D'Aguilar Highway north of the CBD will be holding their Men's Carnival today, with two shotgun starts at 8:00am and 12:30pm. This will be an 18 hole stroke event, and green fees are $22 including lunch (morning players will have lunch after they have played, and afternoon players will have lunch before playing). Hivesville Country Markets
The Hivesville Country Markets will be held at the Hivesville Sports Grounds from 7:00am to around 1:00pm today. These family friendly monthly markets are held on the 4th Sunday of every month, and feature a variety of stalls including fresh local farm produce, plants, crafts and lots of food. There'll also be mini auctions running throughout the morning and there's plenty of free parking in the grounds. Bunya Mountains Markets
The monthly Bunya Mountains Markets will be running at Dandabah in the Bunya Mountains today. The markets feature up to 30 stands selling quality, locally-produced fresh produce, arts and crafts and they'll be operating from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Local cafes like Poppies On The Hill and The Bunya Mountains Cafe will be offering special Market Day menus and morning teas, lunches and afternoon teas, and walking trail maps will be available from both cafes, the Bunya Mountains General Store and market stalls if you'd like to take a walk through the adjoining National Park. South Burnett Soccer Sevens - Kingaroy
The second (and final) day of the 35th annual South Burnett Soccer Sevens will be held at the Kingaroy Soccer Grounds in Oliver Bond Street, Kingaroy today. This giant pre-season carnival - run by the South Burnett Senior Soccer Association - attracts teams from all over south-east Queensland and is one of the region's major annual sporting events. This year organisers expect there'll be upwards of 45 mens and womens teams competing for more than $2,000 in prize monies, and locals are also very welcome to form a team and join in. Today's games will get underway at around 8:00am and will run to about 3:30pm, when presentations will be made to the winners in the Men's, Women's and Over-35s divisions. Admission to the Soccer Sevens is 100% free for spectators and there'll be a licensed bar, BBQ, coffee van and canteen operating at the grounds too.
