South Burnett councillors have unanimously approved a proposal by Triple R Motorsports to build a motor sport facility on a property in Lewis Duff Road at Ballogie.
The vote was taken at Wednesday’s Council meeting after a decision on the Development Application was delayed at the May meeting.
Council officers had recommended in May that the application be rejected but Councillors put up an alternative motion that it be approved, subject to conditions.
They discussed these conditions – which included operating hours and noise – at Wednesday’s meeting before voting to approve the Development Application.
The reasons to ignore the staff recommendation included:
- There was a demonstrated regional need to accommodate a new motor sport facility servicing the region and, possibly, south-east Queensland
- The project complements a range of motor sport activities and events
- The use does not fragment agricultural land as the area is used for cattle grazing and that use can continue
- The application is consistent with the promotion of sporting tourism and will complement similar large-scale sporting events held within the region
- It will provide an entertainment facility for a hard-to-locate sport within a reasonable travelling distance to regional towns
- The attraction of a new industry to the region provides economic opportunity and employment
- The site is not considered remote in regards to a medical response, and other significant events occur within the region a further distance from Kingaroy Hospital
The Development Application includes the motorsport facility (two oval speedway tracks and a dirt drags track), ancillary facilities including a spectator parking area, caretaker’s accommodation and a tourist park.
Councillors noted that although there was some opposition to the proposal, it had also received a lot of support, including from the Ballogie community.

Let’s hope common sense continues to prevail. Well done, councillors.
Great outcome for the area and motorsports. Perfect place for a motorsport facility is rural areas. The amount of trouble and issues Queensland Raceway faces with people moving to the area and complaining about noise is crazy. Move next to a motorsport park and complain about the noise. Hope this facility gets the support it deserves.
That’s typical of self-centred people these days. Amaroo and Oran Parks in Sydney were always there until houses moved closer. now they DONT exist, but housing estates do in their place!
Well done Triple R Motor Sports, it’s been a long journey for you to get this far. Congratulations.
Well done to the local council. Your community is the real winner here. Prosperity for the entire area. Bravo.
