Johnathan Thurston speaking to young rugby league players at a Beyond The Nest event in Murgon in 2020

April 28, 2022

Rugby league legend Johnathan Thurston will be coming to the South Burnett next month to talk to local schoolchildren, but there will also be an opportunity for everyone else to meet him!

Thurston will be at the Kingaroy Town Hall Forecourt from 4:00pm to 7:30pm on Tuesday, May 24.

He is bringing his JT Academy –  an initiative funded by the State Government – to the South Burnett to have a “big conversation” with schoolchildren with the aim of instilling in them confidence, courage and self-belief.

But he is also headlining a community event where everyone can turn up to see him and have a great night out.

There will be live music with local band Misfitz, a barbecue put on by the Kingaroy Rotary Club, displays, raffles and giveaways, including signed merchandise.

Residents can catch free buses from across the South Burnett to attend, but they will have to book first!

The South Burnett Regional Council applied for the funding to enable the JT Academy to visit.

“This is a unique opportunity for residents of the South Burnett to meet a great Queenslander in Johnathan Thurston. His life story and message of looking out for each other is so important,” Cr Danita Potter said.

“The aim is for everyone to leave carrying a bit of JT with them.”

The free buses to the community event can be booked by calling (07) 4168-1533.
