The Nanango SHS team which defeated Murgon SHS in the Open grand final

Nanango State High School has won the Open grand final of the Wide Bay Southern Broncos Challenge after overpowering Murgon State High School at Nanango on Tuesday afternoon.

At half-time, Murgon were still in the game, behind by just a converted try 18-12.

But by full-time, the bigger and strong Nanango pack had stamped their mark on the game, forcing through the Nanango defence and blowing the final score out to 55-18.

Nanango topped off their game with a cheeky field goal right on full-time.

Kaia Williams was named Nanango SHS’s player of the match.

Murgon SHS player of the match was Preston Mosby.

Earlier in the day, the Grand Finals of the Under 15s and Under 13s were played.

In the Under 13s, Murgon SHS defeated Gympie SHS 32-22.

Murgon player of the match was Ziggy Pidgeon.

Gympie player of the match was Blaine Watson.

Murgon SHS also had success in the Under 15s, defeating Kingaroy SHS 28-20.

Murgon player of the match was Mike Fisher.

Kingaroy player of the match was Angus Lanser.
