FLASHBACK: Cyclists taking part in the 144km Tour de Kingaroy held in the South Burnett in 2013 … after an absence of four years, cyclists will be returning to the area in September

July 31, 2019

Kingaroy looks set to play host to between 300 and 350 cyclists in early September, along with their friends, family, teams, support crew, media and fans.

They will be coming to the South Burnett to take part in the Queensland State Road Race and Time Trial Championships.

Time trials are planned to be held in Kingaroy on Saturday, September 7, with the State Road Race Championships the following day.

The event is being organised by Brisbane Cycling Club (BCC) in conjunction with Cycling Queensland.

“This is a very important event for the club, and BCC is very excited to be holding this event in Kingaroy,” president Michelle Ryan said.

“The lead organisers have raced in the area before and loved their experience.

“They also have memories of successful events held there in the past.”

The last major Cycling Queensland event held in the region was Ciclismo South Burnett, which ran annually from 2011 to 2015.

Ms Ryan said cycling was exploding in popularity across Queensland, as evidenced by how much BCC’s membership had grown in the past few years.

“After a very positive meeting with the Kingaroy Chamber of Commerce, our club is hoping that local businesses in the South Burnett will be keen to get in touch, and hopefully get on board with us to help make this event special and memorable,” Ms Ryan said.

“With the number of people who will heading to the area, we would love to hear from local accommodation businesses and food and beverage companies … really, any local business who would like to get involved, in any capacity.”
