South Burnett Regional Council will be hosting its first “Creative Roundtable” at the Wondai Art Gallery next week.

The meeting – for all South Burnett artists, musicians and other creative types – will be held from 4:30pm on Thursday (February 28).

It’s the follow-up meeting promised by Council after an Arts Queensland forum in Kingaroy attracted about 40 local artists, musicians and singers last year.

Arts portfolio chair Cr Danita Potter said the February roundtable would consider two questions:

  • How do we communicate?
  • How can I contribute?

Cr Potter said the meeting would also discuss ideas for the future direction of the region’s arts, as well as the current status of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) and the upcoming RADF bidding process.

Submissions to the latest six-monthly round of RADF close on the same day.

The idea for the Creative Roundtable was formulated during duscussions held after an Arts Queensland forum in the Kingaroy Town Hall Reception Room last December.

Much of discussion concerned Council’s RADF scheme but a need to improve networking between artists and arts groups was also identified.

Council’s Senior Economic Development Officer Craig Tunley, who has responsibility for arts, said he was currently organising quarterly tourism meetings (“Tourism Unpacked”) and business meetings (“Business XL”) to encourage networking between participants.

He suggested a “Creative Roundtable” group be organised to achieve the same result for the arts sector.

“We encourage anyone who is interested in the arts to come along and share their ideas,” Cr Potter said.
