A man aged in his 50s has been seriously injured in a fall from a horse at Ironpot, west of Kingaroy.

A QAS spokesman confirmed a report was received just before 1:00pm Wednesday that the man had fallen from his saddle while riding on a private property near Piper Dodge Mountain Road.

The man was subsequently dragged behind the horse, before being kicked in the head by the animal.

He suffered serious head and facial injuries as a result of the incident

Ambulance crews from Jandowae and Kingaroy were despatched to the scene.

The Toowoomba-based RACQ CareFlight Rescue helicopter was sent  at 1:15pm, and met QAS paramedics on the ground.

The CareFlight medical staff helped to stabilise the ​man, before transporting him to Brisbane’s Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

He was in a serious but stable condition.
