The National Australia Bank has released lists of postcodes where it judges people are most likely to default on mortgages – and despite rumours to the contrary – there are no South Burnett towns amongst them.

In its “Category A” restricted postcodes,  the bank has ruled that home buyers must come up with at least 30 per cent of the purchase price.

NAB’s Queensland Category A postcodes are:

  • 4210 – Maudsland, Guanaba, Wongawallan, Studio Village, Oxenford (Gold Coast hinterland)
  • 4211 – Beechmont, Gaven, Nerang, Pacific Pines (and surrounding towns)
  • 4680 – Gladstone (and surrounding towns), Heron Island
  • 4717 – Blackwater
  • 4720 – Emerald, Yamala
  • 4740 – Mackay (and surrounding towns)
  • 4743 – Suttor, Glenden (west of Mackay)
  • 4744 – Moranbah
  • 4745 – Dysart
  • 4746 – Middlemount, May Downs
  • 4805 – Bowen (and surrounding towns)

And in the NAB’s “Category B”, where buyers must find at least 20 per cent deposit, there is only one postcode, 4000, ie. the Brisbane CBD.

The largest number of “Category A” postcodes listed by the NAB are in South Australia, while NSW has the largest number of “Category B”.
