A silver BMW 325i sedan which allegedly evaded police in Wooroolin at lunchtime today sparked a police operation extending down the D’Aguilar Highway to near Caboolture.
Acting Senior Sergeant Brent Gerber, from Kingaroy Police, said Murgon police attempted to pull over the vehicle in Wooroolin this morning for a routine traffic stop.
“Initially he pulled over, then did a burnout and took off at speed,” Acting Snr Sgt Gerber said.
The vehicle was then spotted in Memerambi.
The BMW then was sighted twice by Kingaroy police but went straight through the town without stopping.
In Nanango, police deployed tyre-deflation stingers across Drayton Street, near Nanango Showgrounds, however Acting Snr Sgt Gerber said the vehicle drove around police and avoided the device.
The BMW then drove through Yarraman and onto Blackbutt.
In Blackbutt, the driver allegedly ignored road signs and drove through roadworks to evade police.
At 2:00pm the vehicle was spotted at Moore.
Police from three different District areas have been co-ordinating a “tag-team” operation with Brisbane Police and there has been no pursuit.
Police say the BMW is registered to an owner in Wynnum West in Brisbane; they believe the owner may be behind the wheel but this has not been confirmed.
UPDATE 2:25pm: Police have stopped the BMW at Wamuran and a man has been arrested and taken into custody. Acting Snr Sgt Gerber said investigations were continuing.
