Telstra will be upgrading two local mobile phone towers over the next fortnight, which will temporarily affect coverage in parts of the local region.
The mobile base station that services Mount Mowbullan, Wengenville, Moola, Rangeville, Upper Cooyar Creek and Alice Creek is being upgraded to provide a better 4G/5G user experience.
The mobile base station at Quinalow on Quinalow-Moola Road / Quinalow-Peranga Road is also being upgraded.
Mobile services in these areas will be temporarily affected while the upgrades are under way.
The Mount Mowbullan site will be switched off during the following times:
- March 10 – Full site outage from 7:00am to 5:00pm
- March 11 – Intermittent outages from 7:00am to 5:00pm
- March 12 – Full site outage from 7:00am to 5:00pm
- March 13-14 – Intermittent outages from 7:00am to 5:00pm
The Quinalow site will be switched off during the following times:
- March 9 – Full site outage from 7:00am to 5:00pm
- March 10-11 – Intermittent site outages from 7:00am to 5:00pm
The upgrades will improve the mobile sites’ capacity, meaning faster downloads, smoother streaming, and less congestion.
Telstra mobile customers will receive texts advising of the upcoming work.
These works will not impact landline services, NBN, satellite internet services or mobile coverage from other providers.
Any calls to Triple Zero from a Telstra mobile when the site is off air will automatically connect to another mobile network, if available, for connection to emergency services.
Telstra customers can continue to make calls and send texts during disruption to mobile services by switching on wi-fi calling. This is a free setting on most mobile phones and allows a mobile to make and receive mobile calls while connected to wi-fi.
Business owners have been advised to contact their bank about connecting their EFTPOS terminals to their NBN or wi-fi connection to prevent delays in processing transactions.
