A Yarraman man has been charged with six offences after allegedly threatening to burn down the Yarraman Police Station in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Jamie Lee Dirago, 25, entered no plea when he appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday afternoon.

He was charged with attempted arson, two counts of threatening violence at night, trespass, possessing dangerous drugs and obstructing police.

Police prosecutor Pepe Gangemi told the court one of these charges could be altered at Dirago’s next court appearance.

No application was made for bail, and Dirago was remanded in custody to August 17.

Police will allege Dirago became angry after police arrested his girlfriend on a public nuisance offence.

He then allegedly made certain threats and returned to the police station with a container of petrol; he left and was later arrested in Budgen Street.

A 40-year-old Cherbourg man facing eight charges of indecent treatment of a child under 16 was refused bail when he appeared in Kingaroy Magistrates Court on Monday.

Solicitor Tim Campion applied for bail, saying his client’s brother in Toowoomba had agreed to provide a place for the man to stay.

However, Police Prosecutor Sgt Pepe Gangemi opposed bail, saying the proposed address was unacceptable as the man could not stay in a house which included young children as he was an unacceptable risk.

Sgt Gangemi said the man was also a risk to the general community and there were no bail conditions which could be imposed which would alleviate this risk.

Magistrate Simon Young agreed, saying the man had a history of serious offences against children, a history of failing to appear and a history of not complying with court orders.

He refused bail and remanded him in custody to August 17.
