The trial of a Kingaroy man accused of strangling his neighbour and former girlfriend opened in the Brisbane Supreme Court on Monday.
Glen Brian Duggan, 39, pleaded not guilty to the murder of Renee Peta Todd in her Gladys Street flat in the early hours of April 10, 2013.
In his opening address, Crown Prosecutor David Meredith told the court he would present evidence that Duggan had admitted to both his flatmate and police on the night he had just killed someone.
The Crown alleges this was in retaliation for threats that Ms Todd made to Duggan in August 2011 when the couple broke up.
The court was told Duggan spoke to police at the time the threats were made but did not press charges.
Mr Meredith said Duggan’s DNA had been found on Ms Todd’s neck but a pathologist had been unable to determine a definitive cause of death.
The trial, before Justice Ann Lyons, is continuing.
