Kingaroy Stock and Rural Crime Investigation Squad (SARCIS) detectives are investigating the unlawful shooting of a quarter horse mare in the Tamaree area, north-west of Gympie.
The mare was grazing on the side of Bannister Road on Thursday, May 7, when she was shot and killed.
Police are appealing to the public for any information that will assist in the investigation.
